Create Challenges. Inspire Climbers. Join Europe’s Largest Indoor Climbing Arena.

At Edinburgh International Climbing Arena (EICA), every wall is a canvas, and every route is a story waiting to be told. As a Route Setter, you’ll be at the heart of our world-class venue, designing climbs that thrill, challenge, and welcome everyone - from curious beginners to elite athletes. This isn’t just about setting routes; it’s about crafting experiences that keep our vibrant climbing community coming back for more.

What You’ll Do:

  • Work closely with the Head Route Setter to create bouldering, roped, and auto belay routes that balance creativity, safety, and accessibility, catering to climbers of all abilities.
  • Work at height to strip holds, set and test routes for safety and quality, and update route grades and tags to keep the arena clear and accessible.
  • Maintain a safe and tidy Climbing Arena by cleaning and storing holds, monitoring equipment, and tightening holds as needed.
  • Help prepare our walls for high-profile competitions, collaborating with international route setters to showcase EICA on a global stage.
  • Engage with customers and staff to gather feedback, enhancing the climbing programme and promoting new routes through signage and social media.

What You’ll Bring:

  • RSA/RSD, IRATA Level 1, or equivalent qualification (IPAF cherry picker training provided if not already qualified).
  • Ability to climb and set quality routes up to 7b and boulders up to V6, with 2-3 years of regular route-setting experience.
  • Strong physical fitness to handle demanding tasks, including working at height, hauling holds (up to 30 kg), and climbing routes for testing.
  • Competence in using hand tools, recording route grades, and maintaining safety standards in a dynamic environment.
  • A collaborative mindset, with the ability to communicate effectively and contribute to a welcoming, inclusive climbing community.

What We Offer:

  • Free access to fitness classes, gym and climbing arena.
  • Opportunities for training and development.
  • Company pension.
  • Access to discounts with a huge number of retailers (saving money in cinemas, restaurants, clothing, and electronics shops, on insurance, healthcare, and much more).

Please note you must be able to commute to Edinburgh International Climbing Arena: Ratho, South Platt Hill, Newbridge, EH28 8AA.

Closing date - Sunday, 14th of June
